It's supernatural London police stories and it's pretty great. There is a terrific Planetary (an excellent "secret occult history of the world comic series") vibe running through them. It helps that it's all well-written and well-paced.

Great summer reads.

I just finished the 4th one and bought the 5th right away.

Finished the 4th book while cutting the grass yesterday (big ups to Audible!). Love this series and it is getting better with every book.

Book #4 major spoiler...
Spoiler:
The f*ck! Lesley working for the faceless man threw me for a huge loop. Was in my backyard just pushing the mower and stopped: "Dammit Lesley".

Yes! That sh*t had me hopping out of my chair!

And then I started to think back through all of it and it made total sense.

They're really good books.

I read Midnight Riot (book one) this week. The author’s bio mentions experience as a writer for Doctor Who and yeah, I can see that. I very much enjoyed the world-building and the humor. Some authors <cough>Sanderson</cough> get far too cute in their world-building, using invention in that area to wallpaper over mediocre plotting, characterization, or wordsmithing. Aaronovitch is a fine writer, and while the characters here feel a bit like “debut novel” characters, the world of modern London magic was genuinely interesting and felt like an enhancement to a solid police procedural. I am interested in more of this.

There's a new Aaronovich story out this week: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/15960 ... bl_vppi_i2

It's listed as a "long novella" and 216 pages.

I'll take it!

There have been a couple of additions in this series. There was an Audible-only short story that I would have liked better if I'd been able to read it. I didn't like the narrator and it was a kind of small, throwaway idea. Definitely skippable.

Then there is a new "long novella" that was supposed to come out on 5/31, but instead got bumped to 6/13. Jerks. It's set in Germany with a new protagonist. I'm excited to check in on the gang, however much they're in the mix.

It's set in Germany with a new main character. There is a crossover character from the main series, too.

Spoiler:
It's an okay entry in the series. I didn't love it but it was nice to get back the Aaronovich flow. I couldn't help but think about how this might set the stage for expansion to the US at some point. I guess the river gods and goddesses would be Native Americans? Could be fertile ground for neat fiction.

As always, i enjoy the bit of ancient history he weaves in to the narrative. It's cool idea that has a whole, real world to grow into.
